The last 3 months he has been on pain pills for his legs and back has hugh growth s on legs. All his test on his organs test great. The pain pills keep his legs moving great. Still jumps on the bed.. I did give him a ottoman to step on. He still loves so much. I want to have a sweet sixteen party for him.
Hes been a great dog. Separation anxiety has been hard to deal with I hate crating him but it what was safest for him. Hes been a great protector.. This girl is a fighter…she has survived cancer and pyometra, gum surgery, infection in her foot, For the past few years, I have fed her a diet of chicken, liver, brown rice, spinach, tumeric, and several supplements.
She is now in diapers when in the house and wears a jacket with handles to assist her on walks. She has degenerative myelopia and her legs are giving out. The past few weeks have been heartbreaking…. My love for this dog is so overwhelming that I don;t know what to do…I don;t think I can bear ending her life or watching her die naturally either I know I should be grateful for being given this much time with her, but it could never be enough.

They are true blessings! Anyone have issues with their Weims teeth and smacking them and licking, like somethings stuck? My Weim is Also, I boil and freeze organic chicken breast to add that and cooked carrots as a topper to each of his 3 smaller meals. And, he gets 1 Greenie a day sometimes a pill pocket when I need to give him meds. We run, we hike, he is a lover. He does get yeast infections in his ears a brownish muck. He has one large lipoma fatty bump and is starting to get several more.
He also has a skin tag that is about an inch long. To me, his gums look angry and swollen above all his teeth. In April, one vet gave him antibiotics to stop the infection, them cleaned his teeth a week later.
The gums look bad again, I think. He had a cytology test for a new fatty area around where his axillary gland is, waiting for the results. Anyone have teeth issues, chronic pancreatitis, allergies to almost everything, maybe kidney issues or lymphoma? If so, do you have any advice? His teeth are cracked, broken, and worn down to the gums. I worry constantly about infected gums. This may be his last year as arthritis is a problem in his back and legs are buckling.

Duke passed away yesterday a month before turning He had bloat and a twisted stomach, during emergency surgery the vet said too much of his stomach tissue had died to be able to save him. He was as active and agile until the end as he was as a 1yr old. I could not even imagine a better dog, so loyal, so loving, truly my best friend.
His death is shocking and I am beyond heartbroken. I returned home from a long day out without him at around 10pm, I fed him right away when he was still jumping around and excited that I was home. I jumped in the shower right away, and when I got out he seemed to be standing a little odd, his back was arched up a little and a slight buldge on one side of his ribs.
I initially thought maybe he had bloat, but I felt where I thought his stomach was and it was not bloated or tight. It turns out a Weims stomach is actually covered by the ribcage, I was only pressing on his intestines to check him.

There is no maximum number of years we can say how long your dog will live. Some specimens of the Weimaraner breed live longer and some shorter. It is unrealistic to expect a dog to live for 20 years, for example. First of all, it would not be humane for the dog itself. A dog that experiences old age has certain health problems and is not too physically active.
Such a dog requires special care. Life as an unpredictable category can lead to premature death that can happen to a dog due to illness or accidents. The most obvious way to describe age is to simply say that it is the time that has passed since birth. This is known as the chronological definition of age. But there are other ways to measure. Treatment choices should be as holistic as possible. For example, avoid Rimadyl, in particular and as many drugs as feasible. The Weimaraner will do better with fewer chemicals.
Find a diet that is Weim-appropriate and stick with it. No one diet works best for every dog, or every Weimaraner. Some have a sensitive stomach.
