Whose Line Is It Anyway? Dan Patterson and Mark Leveson had thought up the idea for the show in their spare time, with little knowledge of how successful it might be. The show's regular stars were two very talented and smart comedians, John Sessions and Stephen Fry , with guests joining them for each episode. Smart jokes and regular references to obscure authors and films were made the norm, in particular by John Sessions who was really the star of the show at this stage.
Indeed, many of the guest performers struggled. Some did brilliantly, such as Lenny Henry , but others like Kate Robbins did not perform so well. In fact, usually hysterical performers like Hugh Laurie and John Bird struggled to gain any laughs at all, thus proving the unpredictability of improvisation. When the show made its inevitable transfer to screen, it appeared not on the BBC , but on Channel 4; the BBC took so long to make a decision on the TV adaptation that the programme's producers accepted an offer from the extremely eager Channel 4.
That first TV series instantly hit a major snag: Stephen Fry decided that improvisation wasn't for him and pulled out although he still made two guest appearances , leaving John Sessions to carry the show himself. In many ways, the first series could be viewed as a success. After all, it proved popular with the audience and successfully introduced viewers to a new style of comedy.
However, in hindsight, it can also be called a failure. Does it make you feel more calm in your own shortcomings? Yeah, same. Does being limited to two lines in an improv bit make the performance easier or harder? Real talk: There are few things funnier than Colin Mochrie turning toward the camera and delivering a dead-serious soliloquy.
Everyone is constantly jockeying for position in order to not break the rules. No game on the show created more chaos. The duo were great sharing the stage, but their chemistry, interplay, and mischievousness was still apparent when one of them was filling in the silence from the back.
This is the improv equivalent. In every sketch, one letter has to be replaced with a different letter. A tragedy. One player stood in front of some beamed-in footage while the other players gave them some veiled hints of what that footage might be.

So, for both its comedy chops and its wish-fulfillment potential, this game earns its place in the Whose Line pantheon. The cast invented entire worlds with the faintest of hints, Wayne Brady could make up an entire album if he wanted, and yet, when forced to work together and sing one word of an improvised song at a time, it was always a complete train wreck.
Sometimes, though, a game famous for its disasters makes it a fan favorite. Functionally, the premise remained the same across all of them: Wayne Brady, who is a force of nature, invented a song on the spot to serenade an audience member in a genre of music randomly sourced from the crowd. Was it funny? Sort of. Dig a wig out of a box and make a joke with it. That has been Comedy since the dawn of man. Of course, the Whose Line cast are experts of the form. The bit has Whose Line players crafting the perfect underhanded come-ons, which left me mystified while my dad cackled on the couch behind me.

She's utterly, brilliantly clever, quick and hilarious she used to be a regular guest on Stephanie Miller before she got, y'know, BUSY, with The Talk and whatever else and is my mostest favoritest black female celebrity ever sorry, Whoopi.
She also happens to be married to a demure white man an attorney, no less which makes me sad because dammit, I coulda had a shot, if only Anyway, my only complaint is that she doesn't have the same interaction and chemistry with the cast that Drew Carey not to mention Clive Anderson did, but knowing Aisha, she will find her way well before the season's end, and WLIIA will enjoy many seasons of renewed life, which is the best news for anyone who loves to laugh uncontrollably for a half-hour at a stretch.
In the meantime, the unprecedentedly lax censorship, if it keeps up, will do more than enough to keep the new WLIIA very satisfying.
