Partial or comparative darkness; absence of complete illumination; esp. Both words have numerous uses. The OED entries for shade and shadow include about 40 different definitions for each of the words.
Shade is what one seeks on a hot sunny day. We sit or walk in the shade. Shading is showing the objects' roundness or shape; shade is the blocking of a light source; and shadow is the variation between black and white with the darkest part at the center and the 'shadow' fades at the edges. When used as nouns, shade is an uncountable noun that refers to an area of relative darkness blocked off from the light.
